Though construction finished in the spring of 1955, Whittier Narrows' classically designed layout — granted to it by its designer, renowned ASGCA course architect William F. Bell — contributes greatly to its longevity.

Whitter Narrows consists currently of three nine-hole courses — "River," "Pine" and "Mountain" — that are packaged as the 18-hole, par-72 layout Whittier Narrows 1 Course, and the 9-hole, par-34 Whittier Narrows 2 Course. Along with meticulously maintained conditions, you’ll find beauty equal to be equal to the challenge at Whittier Narrows with its undulating Bermuda grass fairways with heaps of punishing bunkers and other features to keep you in check. Then, since you’re already working on improving your game, swing into Whittier Narrows’ pro shop, where knowledgeable staff is on hand to service Greater Los Angeles with all things golf. Lastly, why play 18 holes when you can play 19? Your round isn’t complete without a stop at Whittier Narrows' Café, one of the better 19th holes you’re likely to come across.

Great golf doesn’t always have to come at great cost and a great drive, so come out to Whittier Narrows and experience the challenge, beauty and history of this 50-plus year history!

GroupGolfer.com & Golf Talk Radio with Mike & Billy "Together We Save!" - Pajaro Valley Golf Club - $37 - 18-holes, Golf Cart Rental and Range Balls

Pajaro Valley Golf Club

Purchase here!

Enjoy a magnificent round of golf just inland of Monterey Bay with today’s feature: $37 for 18 Holes with Cart and Range Balls at Pajaro Valley Golf Club in Royal Oaks ($78 Value. Good Any Day, Any Time until April 30, 2012.)

Pajaro Valley Golf Club is nestled just West of Monterey Bay and Highway 1 halfway up the California Coastline. Playing alongside scenic backdrops with a frequent coastal breeze, this temperate peninsula course features course conditions primed for playing perfection. With no two holes alike, this course offers its guests the ideal layout for golfers in possession of an avid imagination.

Originally designed by Floyd McFarland in 1922, Parajo Valley Golf Club was later renovated in 1975 by the well-known architect and author Robert Muir Graves. The redesign accents Pajaro Valley’s wide rolling fairways with Monterey Cypress and Pine trees, creating an experience that plays like a game of chess: If one doesn't think a couple move ahead, one's due for a tricky approach.

Laid out amongst surrounding forests and rolling hills, the par-72, 6,664-yard course at Parajo Valley brims with challenges and natural beauty. Drastic elevation changes painted with tree-lined fairways make for a combination of fantastic shots - with both camera and club - while still catering to players of all skill levels.

Famous - or infamous, depending on your take - for its tight, slick and well-protected greens, low scores at Pajaro Valley Golf Club are no easily obtained without a strong short game. A few fantastic, well-placed drives would go far to keep you in contention, but beware, with greens that are known for speed, true roll and utter perfection, this is one occasion you may put your putter to the test.

With its location close to the Elkhorn Slough - a natural habitat beloved by hundreds of species of plants and animals, including over 350 species of birds alone - it's no surprise that the course is intertwined with native beauty. In fact, this rare combination is one of the most oft-cited reasons why Parajo Valley Golf Club is considered a regional favorite by so many.

So whether it’s a planned stop on your way up the coast or just a check-in to your local favorite, play a round at Pajaro Valley Golf Club and appreciate Mother Nature's gift of golf.

GroupGolfer.com & Golf Talk Radio with Mike & Billy "Together We Save!" - Mare Island Golf Club in Vallejo near San Francisco - $27 for 18-holes with Cart Rental and Range Balls

Mare Island Golf Club

Purchase here!

Playing a round at Mare Island Golf Club is like playing a round in history. If you’ve not yet had the chance to visit this course, today’s feature is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for: $27 for 18 Holes with Cart and Range Balls at Mare Island Golf Club in Vallejo near San Francisco ($62 Value. Expires April 16, 2012.)

Located in Vallejo, Mare Island Golf Club was established back in 1892 — that makes this course the oldest course west of the Mississippi! The par-70, 6,150-yard course has recently expanded back to a full 18-hole facility designed by respected Pacific Rim architect Robin Nelson. The new course was designed with the goal of challenging golfers of all abilities. "The majority of holes offer a magnificent view of San Pablo Bay, the Napa River, Mount Tamalpais and on a clear day the Golden Gate Bridge. No other Bay Area course has more panoramic vistas," according to the course.

The course at Mare Island Golf Club offers two distinct layouts: The front nine has a more traditional course design featuring small greens and tight, tree-lined fairways; whereas the back nine, having been redesigned by Nelson in 1999, is links-style, and will have you playing through rolling hills, swelling fairways, and large, carefully manicured greens. Gorgeous seaside vistas will surround you on the island, with views of San Pablo Bay on one side and the Napa River on the other. On especially clear days it is even possible to spot the Golden Gate Bridge.

Reviews are positive: "…the back nine (which are links style with elevation changes as opposed to the older nine, mature tree-lined fairways with small pie-shaped greens...the front has two of the coolest par-3s you will ever see on one nine of golf, one is a narrow look with the green cut out of a cliff wall, the other is an all uphill look over a lake about 210 carry to the green…" raved one reviewer on golflinks.com.

Mare Island Golf Course also features an on-site restaurant with food and spirits, so you'll never have to worry about your hunger or thirst after your round!

River Course at the Alisal

Purchase here!

The year-round sunshine, picturesque ocean, mountain and valley views and rustic beauty of Californiaʼs central coast makes River Course at Alisal a must-play. Factor in todayʼs deal, and itʼs a no-brainer: $45 for 18 Holes with Cart PLUS 15 Percent Off Food at River Course at the Alisal in Solvang near Santa Barbara ($99 Value. Expires May 15, 2012.)

Built in 1992, and making itʼs Hollywood debut in 2004ʼs feature film Sideways, is one of Santa Barbaraʼs golfing gems, the River Course at Alisal. Set in the foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains and alley, with softly rolling terrain and manicured fairways this accommodating course is playable at every experience level. The par-72, 6,830 yard course will give you a run for your money but wonʼt leave you begging for mercy. Players will be rewarded for length and accuracy, but casual golfers need not worry; the decently wide fairways and large, slightly undulating greens will be forgiving. Consisting mostly of par-4ʼs with a few par-3ʼs and par-5ʼs peppered in, it is a course for all.

The four lakes and Santa Ynez river, that the course sometimes follows, ensure not only gorgeous landscaping but a little challenge as well. However, the hole that will require the most of you will surely be the 438-yard, par-4 number seven. Go too big off the tee and youʼre likely to end up in the adjacent vineyard, hook it and the lake will claim it. The elegance of River Course at Alisal doesnʼt end on the course. River Course at Alisal boasts an assortment of quality amenities to keep you at the top of your game. A driving range, putting green, restaurant, pro shop and an expansive variety f instructional programs with PGA and LPGA pros.

If breathtaking panoramic views, challenging golf and good deals arenʼt your thing, then maybe you should let this pass you by. But if you can appreciate majestic scenery and not only a good round, but a good round at a great price; then you know what to do.

The Golf Club at Glen Ivy

Championship golf near sunny-and-beautiful Corona, California? You couldn't possibly pass on today’s feature: $39 for 18 Holes with Cart and Range Balls at The Golf Club at Glen Ivy in Glen Ivy near Corona ($79 Value. Expires April 15, 2012.)

Etched out of land alongside the beautiful Cleveland National Forest just south of Corona, this course lacks neither scenery nor appeal. The Golf Club at Glen Ivy boasts one of the premier tracks in Southern California with its scenic views and creatively designed fairways adapted from the natural lay of the land. This par-72 beauty was a brainchild of the great Ted Robinson Sr., and it’s no secret that this course is as challenging as it is pleasing to the eye.

The Golf Club at Glen Ivy measures out to a fair 6,673 yards from the tips with a course/slope rating of 73/131. Its four sets of tee locations will vary the distance and the challenge, providing further appeal to the scratch golfer and the weekend warrior alike. You’ll kick off your round with a long downhill par-5 measuring up to 537 yards but playing much shorter than the yardage would have you think. Getting to the green in two is quite possible, but be wary of wayward shots that will be welcomed by both sand and water. Close out the front nine with the par-3 No. 9, which features a peninsula-style green jutting out into water with three protective guard bunkers.

The back nine at The Golf Club at Glen Ivy kicks off with the moderate-length par-5 No.10 and quickly reloads with another par-5, No. 13. Unlike No. 1, this dogleg-left plays longer than its yardage indicates. The following par-3 No. 14 is a signature hole of sorts that requires you to fly a lake and green a shot between woods and water surrounded by strategically placed bunkers. Lastly, you’ll finish how you started: The long, downhill No. 18, a par-4 finishing hole like none you’ve ever played before. With a 200-foot vertical drop from the tees to the fairway, No. 18 boasts the highest vertical drop of any hole at any course in the United States.

After you finish up on the signature No. 18, be sure to tally up the scores at the Canyon’s Grille featuring a wide array of great food and cold drinks from sunrise to sunset. Happy-hour specials on food and drinks Monday through Friday make the weekday round that much better. Be sure to swing into the pro-shop at The Golf Club at Glen Ivy for all of the latest in greatest in golf equipment and apparel from the big names that you demand and deserve.

Swing on into The Golf Club at Glen Ivy for some great food, drink and championship golf — you’ll have little left to be desired after you play at this world-class facility!
